Bridesmaids fashion and trends. (2017-2018)
Over the years we have seen so many different fashions and trends for maids that have either been big hits, or big flops. I think we have all the seen the Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders bridesmaid photo with the orange satin tea length gowns, pick ups and puffy shoulders. It just goes to show that some trends aren’t worth following just because its what’s ‘in’ right now, you have to choose something you like and will look back and say, yes I made the right choice.
Fortunately, bridesmaids fashion is taking a modern move and the designers are bringing out more slim cuts, sophisticated and lace gowns to suit every style and shape. We have already received one collection of new gowns from D’Zage and it is already proving to be very popular with the brides and maids alike. We have noticed that the designers have been listening to the brides and have taken on board some request from stockists to meet the needs of everyone not just the average bride because such a thing doesn’t really exist anymore. brides are becoming more independent, they know what they want and we love to have feedback be noticed. We can see by some of the new collections coming out, that the attention to details is very prominent, with the use of sequins, more detailed laces, layered tulle and floral prints from vintage inspiration.
Reality TV is a big influence for brides and their maids so bigger weddings and bigger bridal parties are really popular right now. They like to see what the latest celebrity inspired look will be so we have been seeing a lot of sheer/nude tones but done modestly for weddings. Blush tones are still a very big hit with the maids because it feels feminine and compliments a lot of skin tones. Keep a close eye on the other colours that are looking to be big for 2017 – 2018 being metallic tones, corals and navy is still holding very strong for its sophisticated feel. we have seen so many brides that are embracing the rainbow look with their maids gowns, whether it being the same gown in different colours or the same colour gowns but in different styles.
We have seen mainly chiffon gowns over the past 5 years or so and brides have been feeling like it has been done and seen so the designers are bringing back some satin gown and introducing crepe fabric, which we are very excited about as the crepe wedding gowns have been becoming more and more popular over the past year. Its a hardy, forgiving fabric that can be worn comfortably. The newest trend for maids materials is the stretchy Jersey material, mainly being seen on multi way dresses as it is easy to do and cuts well for alterations. The mulit way gowns are still one of the biggest sellers in the UK because it gives ladies the option of having straps the way they would feel most comfortable but still allowing the Whole party to wear the same dress.
As for accessories, rose gold is still holding on very strongly paired with droplet earrings to finish the look.
We hope this blog is helpful to you and we would love to hear your feedback and what you have/are choosing for your maids. If you have any question feel free to use our contact us page, our facebook or call us. We are more than happy to help.
